António Alvarenga is an International Consultant, Professor, and Researcher with over 20 years of expertise in Foresight, Scenarios, Strategy, and Innovation. He serves as Adjunct Associate Professor at Nova SBE (teaching “Strategic Foresight and Scenario Planning”) and is a Researcher at CEG-IST (Técnico, U. Lisbon) and IHC (FCSH, Nova U. Lisbon). António has trained over 5,000 managers and C-level executives. As Founder and CEO of ALVA R&C, he has provided consulting and mentoring to over 100 organizations. His interdisciplinary academic contributions include publications in journals like Technological Forecasting and Social Change, The International Journal of Management Science, and The International Journal for Equity in Health. António earned a PhD in Management Sciences from Univ. Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and received international training in Strategic Foresight at PREST (U. Manchester), Futuribles, Coates & Jarret, Outsights, and Fuld & Company. He holds an Economics degree from U. Porto (Faculty of Economics), a Master’s in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges), and a Post-Graduate qualification in Strategy from ISCSP, U. Lisbon.
Previously, António was Adjunct Associate Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico (teaching “Scenario Analysis”) and ISEG-Lisbon, where he received an Honourable Mention Award (2017/2018) for Excellence in Teaching. He also directed the Strategic Foresight Unit of the Portuguese Department of Foresight and Planning, among other roles.
Beyond academia and consulting, António is deeply involved in the arts, with a background in theatre, vocal poetry, photography, and cinema. He has developed numerous artistic projects, including theatre productions, dramaturgies, performances, and conceptual works that explore the fine line between composition and improvisation.
On a personal note, António cherishes his role as a father to two “increasingly less small” daughters and actively nurtures his passions for walking and basketball.
